It's no secret among my family that I am a boiling cesspool of useless knowledge that will ultimately get me nowhere in life. Some of my cousins have been asking me for about 4 years now to compete in this, what I assumed to be lame, annual trivia contest in Wisconsin. After getting some information on the contest and doing some reading of my own, I have found that this is actually the largest trivia contest in the world (Guinness World Record Holder), and I am embarking on what is guaranteed to be an ego destroying journey to participate... and I need your help!
Here are some details on the contest:
The contest runs in 2 simultaneous parts. The first is much like our favorite battle.net trivia channel, where players answer a constant stream of questions. The game runs for 54 hours STRAIGHT (Read: no breaks) from 6PM on April 11 to midnight on April 13th. There are approximately 7-8 questions per hour, and each question must be answered before the next one is asked. There were close to 600 questions last year. Each question is worth 2000 points, split evenly between all teams who answer correctly.
These questions are EXTREMELY hard. They can come from any subject imaginable; nothing is off-limits. We are given access to any resource to answer questions, internet included. The questions are designed, however, such that the internet offers no help.
The second part of the competition is must like a trivia based Amazing Race, in which each team sends a few members through the city on a search for clues. The rest of the team stays behind and continues answering questions. I know little about my team but I believe we already have this part covered.
This contest usually consists of about 14,000 participants on hundreds of teams. I would like to see them all leave shuffling their feet with their heads hanging while I (We) lift the trophy triumphantly. Since some of you are the smartest people I have ever 'met,' and the internet cannot save me (this time, at least), I am turning to YOU for assistance.
Once the contest begins, I would like to relay the questions to anyone who is interested... via this forum, an internet blog, or however else. Hopefully you will be able to supply me with an abundance of correct answers.
I can try my best to answer any questions you may have about the contest itself, and I will supply more information when I receive it.
