You guys are sucking big time when it comes to ideas for the new Trivia Bot! Can't someone think of something really cool that might make the game more fun? I'm surprised we don't have more "creative" people around here! Chalupa BTW: What do you guys think of this idea: The points you get for answering a question would depend on the number of people in the room (since it's harder when the room is full). For example: If you are alone you get: 0 between 1 and 10 ppl: 1 Point between 11 and 19: 2 Points 20 or more ppl: 3 points I would have the bot "kick" all idle users so ppl don't load up their bots in the room just to get more points. Plus, the idle ppl wouldn't count towards more points. If I could, I would just have the bot not count idle users instead of kick, but i'm not sure if that's possible. What do you guys think about that?

Not a bad idea the only thing is when I play on east most of the time noone is on lol so that would be a lost cause for me. Ummmm what about when questions are those super long ones theres command to skip the question, or does it already have that?

Hehe umm well part of the reason that new ideas are not that easy to come up with is that it's hard to know what is technically possible.. Such as, it's been brought up in other threads, if you were 15th and you could !rank "16" in order to see how many more points you needed to move up a place, but that was decided to not be possible..
In regards to the multi-points depending on the amount of players, that makes sense, but i'm not sure about the 0 points when your alone. Of course it would cut off people going in at low-activity times and racking up the points; However, it'd be annoying if people were coming in and out, so sometimes when you got it right, you'd be awarded with nothing! lol.
I'd say give half a point or something, but then that would probably get complicated/ulgy, if you had 50.5 points.. So my other suggestion is to up the points for all the categories of people. Keep 1 point no matter what, but when 2 or more people, make it 2 points and so forth. The one thing about that is we'd have really escalated scores from now on, so that'd have to be decided.
As to making the bot funner.. I think that the main thing, which obviously was the reason you started this project, is try and make the bot more stable. Since lag/no bot is what takes away the fun.
Oh and one idea I just got, is that I get asked a lot by people when they first come into the channel, is to score them. My usual answer when it's kind of busy is, "why don't you try to get one right!" Unfortunately, when it's busy, as you've said with the scoring idea, it's not that easy to get one right, so.. How about having Triviahost greeting users with their scores?

Greeting with your current score is not a bad idea....except that it already will be greeting with the current question...hmm..maybe I could have a different bot greet the scores since we don't want the trivia bot to spam too many lines....i'll look into that one.
As far as scoring, this is what I have so far:
Scoring is based on several factors.
* The amount of people in the room * The amount of hints it takes you to answer the question
For example, if the room is full with 20 or more and you get the answer without any hints, you will get 4 points. All the way down to the worst case scenerio is if there are under 5 people (including the bots which really means you or you and 1 person) you will still get 1 point UNLESS you answer after the third hint, then you get nothing. This will stop people alone in the room from racking up points by waiting for the third hint. After each hint, the point level starts to drop and the max amount of points is 4 and the lowest is zero.
When you get the answer correct, the bot will display how many points you earned, like (points: 2 Score: 90 Streak: 2)
So far, that is how I programmed the bot and it's all working ....of course I can make changes.
Any other ideas? Think outside of the box...even if it seems impossible because there is a good chance I can do it, and if not, I can get help on the Script programming forums if I need it.

Hey! did you put the new bot in today? Because the bot was using that scoring technique, I thought it was the backup bot or something. Well one major thing that should be changed i think, is it needs to have ranks still! Competition is the way to go, heh.

First of all: Grammar police! No such word as "funner." Anyway... sounds like some good improvements. I like the multiple points, but maybe like 3 max. But also, with at least one point all the time, unless it's the third hint and you're all by yourself, as previously noted. I still think the "rank 3", "rank 12", etc. idea is good, while maybe not implementable. Another thing... maybe have longest streak info stored somewhere so people can see what the longest streak has been and by who. Overall, bravo on the improvements. Way to keep the trivia thriving and exciting! LostPeon

Um, maybe nix the multiple points idea... I think scores will become too inflated and actually I think I rather liked it just 1 point per question.
Also, the new bot doesn't seem to have a "Rank" function on it... is this a coming attraction, or are we going to left in the dark?
And, lastly, some questions will give, for example, 3 letters on the first hint, but only one one the next two, still leaving, sometimes, 2/3 of the blanks well... still blank.
Most everything else seems to be working fine and fairly smoothly. Just those few things to consider.
I'll post anything else if I notice anything other that is of importance.

Lost- Let me know the times you see the bot giving less hints than the previous one. This should be impossible! The bot is programmed to always give a better hint UNLESS a better hint would
A) Expose the entire answer or B) Show more than 80% of the answer
I did this to make it more of a challenge. What fun is it if the bot gives you all but one letter?
I still made the bot give no hints with answers that are 3 or less because once again, giving a hint would make it too easy. Maybe I will change that to 1 letter hints with a 3 letter answer.
Also, Rank is under repair, however, you can see the top rankings (plus their scores) by checking TheTriviaHost's profile for now. I took away the ability for you guys to check ranks only because if you make a mistake in the format, it will crash the bot. For example, some people typed !rank and that was crashing the bot, because as of now, it looks for a number after the rank command. Until I have time to fix that, I just removed the command.
I will be making improvements as we go!

hmm....the first non moderator post on this thread....
Sometimes when i come in at a weird time of day, like early morning(actually right now for example), Thetriviahost isnt there. I don't know if this is because its down or if this is because it automatically leaves when there are no active people in the channel. If possible could it be made so it automatically comes back on if there are active people coming in. Although i could just sit and wait for Triviahost's fun facts id rather play trivia
Also, it used to tell u the number one ranked player and his score everyonce and a while. This feature seems to have dissapeared. Maybe you could put this feature back in with the top 5 ranks?

as lost or navy pointed out earlier, the bot is VERY stringent on spamming.. can u ease it up a bit because all i do is have a couple of quick points, but then i get a spam warning, but its good that the warnings get deleted quickly ---greeny

I have noticed that when the bot asks a question, and it gets to the third clue, and someone finally gets it, no points are given away. I don't know if there is an agenda behind it, but I thinking that it will just frustrate people upon receiving no points for their "correct" answer. I believe you should either reinstate the 1 point that one would get for answering the question at that point or make it so the bot only gives two clues before revealing the answer.

The only time you get Zero points is when there are two or one active players in the room, and you wait for the third hint to get the answer correct. If there are 3 or more people in the room playing the game, then you will still get a point even after the third hint. How hard is it when you are alone in the channel to get the answer on the third hint? It pratically gives you the answer. If there are more than 2 people playing with you, then at least you still beat them to the answer so you still get a point. This just stops that people that win for the month based on time in the channel and not on trivia knowledge. Some people like to play alone late at night and answer every question (after the third hint) and they rack up the points. I just thought this would be more fair in awarding the people who really know the answers (like getting more points if you answer without any hints).

Hmm ya tough call, since that reason to stop people when their alone makes a lot of sense, however, it is disappointing to get... 0 points! As well it's good to award the people who know the answers right away, but what that does is makes the "a's" and "s's" all the more frustrating!
For exampe: "what animal is said to be man's best friend?" NavY_Ceals: dog NavY_Ceals: dogs Bot hint: a---- NavY_Ceals: a dog and I Just lost a point there! lol.
So a few unfortunate problems, but it seems their necessary.
