As a self proclaimed entrepreneur/businessman, my brain is always thinking of ways to make money. Ideas fuel all businesses. Even the simplest ideas can turn into multi-million dollar ventures. Recently, I've been noticing a plethora of ads on tv, magazines, and even billboards for silly ringtones and games for cell phones. But aside from the one-time-charge ringtones and wallpapers, the same companies offer services one can subscribe to. They vary from horoscopes to jokes to love advice. All I can think while watching these commercials is, who in their right mind would pay for this crap?? Yet the answer is very clear -- many people -- otherwise how would these companies be able to afford air time and print costs? Off the bat, there is a large consumer base and obviously, money to be made. The services that offer subscriptions are especially clever. They charge a fee for each text message/wallpaper/etc they send you. They best part is, after you receive your first product, you will probably never think of it again. Many people would not go through the trouble of cancelling a daily horoscope or cute little joke of the day; until they're hit with a big, fat cell phone bill. Some of these companies charge up to $1.50 per message they send you.
By now, I'm sure most of you know where I'm going with this. Take out wallpaper/ringtones/horoscope and add TRIVIA!
Offer a subscription to a daily/hourly/bi-hourly trivia game that offers a chance to win money. People will eat...it...up.
For instance, there is a daily prize pool of $1,000. A consumer pays $1 for receiving the question plus $1 for a text message to try to answer the question. Many people will answer and get it right thinking it's easy money. But, of course there is always fine print and they discover winners are actually drawn at random from a pool of people with correct answers.
Usually people keep business plans and ideas secret, but I'm already swamped with business ventures of my own. There are many possibilities and opportunities. What do you guys think?
