Quite an image you got there DX. Why IS our thanksgiving in October? And for that matter, why's their thanksgiving in November? Canadian and American thanksgivings are distinct events each being created independently and for different reasons. The American one was created by the pilgrims giving thanks to the Native Americans by having a celebration/feast with them. This first occured in December 1619. It was changed to it's current timing to allow merchants to have more time to sell christmas merchandise. The Canadian thanksgiving day occured on and off since 1578 for a variety of reasons and was not celebrated every year. In 1879 we started observing it every year but on different dates to commemerate different things the nation was thankful for that year(good harvest, special anniversaries etc..) And in 1957 it's modern timing(2nd Monday in October) was proclaimed by parliment as a general day of thanksgiving.
