i heard this first at school and i refused to believe but omg..i cannot believe this sh*t he is seriously fu*king dead...like wtf...it's complete bullsh*t.....he's cheated death so many times and you would think he might go from a croc but nooooo...it was a measly lil stupid ass stingray....i mean come on..a stingRay!!! wth, nothing makes sense anymore...this is very sad news...i think september is a very bad month..i mean look at 9/11 and now this..far out ridiculous...for those who dont know what happened, he was in cairns making a documentary when somehow a stingray barb pierced him through the heart, killing him..... and dat's not all i mean he has a lovely wife and 2 kids which by the way are extremely young..8 and 3 years old...sometimes i think god is just unfair to people.. he was an aussie icon but he was known throughout the world and he has left a huge impression of himself to the world and he died doing what he loved most.. fairwell great Steve Irwin and may you rest in peace...he was 44

Although it sucks that he died, I was always thinking that one of these days, he would not be so lucky. I mean, if you play with fire, you WILL get burned. This guy was always having close calls with deadly snake bites, Croc attacks, etc.
You would think once he made his fortune and fame he would have stopped taking the chances he took. He was already rich and famous, so why risk death not only for selfish reasons, but for the wife and kids.
What a way to go.....

To me the tragic irony is that he died in such a flukish way. Had the stingray pierced him anywhere else but his heart he would probably still be alive. I thought he was good, but quite crazy and that he would end up eventually dying from a snake or a crocodille.
Anyways, he will be missed.
But king, 5 years ago 9/11, now Steve Irwin died by an insurgent stingray? Thousands dead in an attack of terrorism vs one guy dead from a fluke accident. Perspective.
As for why he was still doing it, I don't think he kept on doing it for the money. He just loved exploring the habitats of different animals and seeing animals up close. People who love what they do will do it for as long as they can, sometimes even regardless of the money.
Was it a little selfish, I suppose, but it sounds like he wasn't doing anything risky when he died.

actually one of the ppl who worked with irwin was interviewed, and he said the stingray was quite venomous, and that getting pierced anywhere in the upper body would likely have been fatal.
what a way to go though, thats 100 time better than dying in your sleep or getting hit by a car

Hmm I also heard that if he had been stung anywhere else he would have survived. But ya I wouldn't put him up there with 911.
"sometimes i think god is just unfair to people" ~king. Uhh, as has been mentioned, he constantly put himself into dangerous situations, it was totallly forseeable. Dying in your sleep, I could see people blaming god for that, but not this scenario.
Still too bad though, he did seem to know what he was doing most of the time.

I'm pretty sure he knew he was going to die like this eventually. That's what these kind of people are like. They know what they're getting into when they dive with sharks/crocodiles/deadly animals and the consequences.

I prefer to not be a hypocrit. I thought he was a fool in life, I still think he was a fool in death. I mean, he cornered the thing and didn't have any protection on his torso against a sting. If he's a true zoologist, he would have prepared better. That's not to say he deserved to die, but as chal said, he was flirting with death his entire career. It just finally caught up to him.
Cruel, but it's true.

Dying in your sleep, I could see people blaming god for that Honestly, I don't see how you can blame God for that either... My philosophy on it is this: God gave life, he has every right to take it away. And maybe it's better for some people to die.

i wasn't comparing 9/11 with steve but they just both happen to be in the same month..so it's abit coincidental that's all...i know 9/11 was a much bigger disaster...but yea he was provoking his own death but people like that..you just dont wanna believe that they will die so early or in that way.....i was watching news and they said there are very rare occurences of people dying from stingrays and that this was a rare incident...ironic... rbob i remember u back in the days when u were a decent person...maybe a lil humorous but yea i dont know what happened to you..what changed you so much? .....rip stevie
