If so, how much?
I find myself oftentimes being too lazy to really study and squeak by with the bare minimum. I get distracted by shiny objects.
Seems like I always start off classes with a gung-ho spirit... and tell myself this is going to be the quarter where I turn things around... but that always dies pretty quick.
I like working with others or on group projects and the like, though. Keeps me motivated and I feel bad if I don't keep up.
30-40 hours per week is what I always hear you "should" be studying... but I doubt I've ever met that.

I have never ever ever studied 30 - 40 hours a week. In the past I've always studied one or two days before my exams, pure crammage. This method has worked for me most of the time. However I have a few B's on my name, so maybe I'll have to change my methods.
I also enjoy mooch studying i.e. Other people study and you just look at what they're studying. Works great.

People study in college? This is news to t3h Doom! I wasn't in what you'd call a "hard" (and by that I don't mean difficulty, I mean a subject in which there was a lot of solid information) major, mine being history. I started in biochem, which did fit that bill, and occasionally I read the books. History was a whole other ball of wax, and didn't require nearly as much work. Go to class, occasionally listen to the professor, skim the textbook, lather, rinse, repeat.
My junior year, I took a course called "Foundations of the Modern World" (history of ancient civs as a survey, required course), and I skipped it 15 times out of 45 meetings in 15 weeks (usually Friday, sometimes Wednesdays)...she docked you a point per absence out of a total of 1,000 points for the class. You could miss every class and potentially get a 99.55% if you nailed everything else. Now THAT is a class.

Well Im not in College but every beginning of a new term, I tell myself that Im gonna study the whole term cause everytime I get real close to getting a C in science and Language Arts (or english if thats what you guys wanna call it) but I only do it in the beginning or before test days.
My science teacher sucks though. He just gives us a list of things to do for the week and then we just have to finish it all by sunday. Its pretty easy stuff to get easy points for but when we do experiments, he doesnt really explain what and why it happened and kinda just expects us to figure it out.
I mean I guess we're supposed to know since we have this science book we're supposed to read and we get tested on the stuff we read on Friday's but it still doesnt explain enough.
Don't get me wrong by making our teacher sound like an ass but he really isn't. I mean he is but he does it a nice way. Like he says the same thing that a normal teacher would say when they're mad but he says it in a nice way as if hes complimenting you. So hes an asshole but in a nice way.
Now my language arts teacher is a bitch. Last term we had to analyze stupid poems and when we didn't get it, all she said was "well you guys are gonna suffer on the summative" which is the big test at the end of the benchmark or standard or w/e we're covering.

Yeah i do, but only the stuff that interests me. My math and science classes i always spend the amount of time required for me to do my best. We only get one shot at this, so why demand anything less than your best right? But then i guess i contradict myself when i say that classes that don't strike my fancy are promptly moved to the "last-minute cram session" pile.

lol No. I barely study. I think I have a half-way photographic memoery because I have taken FINALS with last minute cram sessions and done well on them (B+ or Better). But idk I think I should start cuz I have harder classes and next year is gonna be hella demanding...

I dont study for Math because Math is the best and easiest subject. All you do is learn the stuff then do it. No explaining. Social studies is what I study for since all you gotta do is memorize stuff.

But idk I think I should start cuz I have harder classes and next year is gonna be hella demanding... I was in pretty much the same situation up through high school. When I got to college, it was a completely different story, though. Except for a few rare times, I had never properly studied for any of my classes and got by quite well with hardly any effort. College changed all that for me. When I first actually had to take significant time out of class to do homework and whatnot, I was pretty overwhelmed. It's gotten better, but there's still those teachers that you get that think their class is the only one you're taking and load you up with so much work, it's practically impossible.

I may be just a lowly freshman but I haven't studied yet and I'm still holding a 4.0 after a semester.

I hope y'all realize study skills is indicative of work ethic and not intelligence.
Not saying work ethic is an unnecessary skill, but... GPA =/= Smartness
I study never. Ever. My GPA, you ask? Mid 3's. Not sure right now.
My friend will ask me if I want to study and after I say no and he says come on, I go:
"Dude, you need to learn that no means no, this will prevent you from ever going to jail because of some prude woman."
