I don't know if anyone else really gives a crap about this, but Ben Wallace is leaving the Pistons for the Chicago Bulls!
Now this is wonderful for Chicago, but horrible for my team. It doesn't really annoy me that our team is going to be worse, however. What annoys me is no one seems to care about which team they play for, they just care about how much cash they get.
Ben Wallace's gain? 2 Million dollars a year extra. Now this would seem like a lot to some of you, but if you think about it, Ben was offered a $12 million a year contract with the Pistons. That means that he's leaving the team that pays him $12 million for a team that pays him $14 million. He's already got a crapload of money, an extra $2 million really isn't gonna get him that much.
There seems to be a lack of team pride. What happen to the Steve Ysermans, the kind of people who would turn down offers with more cash just because they love the teams they play for? Hockey seemed to be one of the few sports that people had pride in, with Steve playing for 21 years on the Red wings, Chelios taking a paycut just so the wings would be able to have a full roster.
Of course I was wrong. Sergei Federov leavs us to go "play with Brett Hull". Little did he know that Hull retired that year, serves him right. Then now I hear Brendan Shanahan is leaving! Does anyone care anymore?
Anyway, this may just be an angry rant of a Detroiter that everyone shrugs off, but does anyone else get where I'm coming from?
