Just trying to keep stuff going while at the same time avoiding any conflicts.
Name your best Republican Candidate for 2008 Presidential run AND Name your best Democrat Candidate for 2008 Presidential run
Just ONE Candidate per party. But please do post for BOTH Republicans and Democrats.
Explanations as to WHY they are the best candidates would be appreciated as well.

well, being canadian, i don't know a large amount of american politics, but from an outsider view: 2008 will be an interesting race
Republican: Al Gore - running for the third time, he has no bush to overpower his campaign. after his documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," which essentially "woke up" a great deal of the north american public, he may be seen as the proper visionary to lead the country after the fiasco that is the iraq war and insurgency
Democrat: Hillary Clinton - has a huge following as governor (or whatever it is in the U.S) of New York, already being familiar with the presidential process, and having virtually no scandal or dirty past to tear down a campaign. She was voted by some internet site to not only be the next president, but to be the first female president.
third possibility: Jeb Bush - daddy bush sr. got one of his sons into office, and he's not about to give up that easily, seeing how easy it was to get Dubya re-elected. however, Jeb isn't incompetent, so he may be able to positively affect the american people. dealing with the florida hurricanes has him looking like a right humanitarian, and making the proper decision in that terry schiavo case shows he has fortitude.

did i not include the disclaimer that i am canadian?? Not a good enough excuse. Considering I'm Canadian and actually started this thread. Here I'll list some likely candidates for both sides. Democrats:Hilary Clinton Barack Obama John Edwards Joe Biden John Kerry Republicans:John McCain Rudy Giuliani Jeb Bush Mitt Romney Newt Gingrich If you require more info here's a Wikipedia link. Democrat: Vilsack For no other reason than hes from Iowa. If not him, then Edwards seems to be the best feasible candidate.
Republican: McCain Simply, he's my favorite out of the bunch.
(At this point, I dont have much concerning their political platforms)

I'm not sure who should be more insulted, Gore or the Republicans. Even your average Achmed, Mohammed, or Sadikh knows that Al Gore is so far Left that he makes Hillary look almost moderate. But I guess since you're a Canuck, it's forgivable. Everyone up there has Socialist tendencies, so the whole scale is different.

I really don't know how to back up any of my picks, they just seem good to me from what i've seen on the news and read about from both sides.
Democrat Barack Obama Al Gore
Republican
I really can't think of any republican right now that I like. They all seem like assholes to me, no offense if you're a republican. It just seems like they're all overly conservative. I'm actually hoping the more politically intelligent can enlighten me on some of the candidates running, democrat and republican, so I don't look like an idiot whenever someone brings up politics.

Democrat: Barack Obama with John Edwards or Al Gore as VP
Republican: John McCain and Rudy Giuliani, preferably with McCain running for president.
That would probably be the most interesting race in my opinion.

Barbara Bush? Wife of George Herbert Walker Bush, the Republican president elected in 1988? Mother of George Walker Bush, the Republican president elected in 2000? The REPUBLICAN Barbara Bush?
Prone, I don't mean this to be just another rip on you. This I actually want to settle in your mind. Next time you talk about politics on this board, please make sure you're at least SOMEWHAT informed. So far you've called Hillary Clinton a Republican and Barbara Bush a Democrat. It's insulting to those of us who actually follow politics.
Check your information before you post next time.

Well then I'll make up my work, and act like I know what I'm talking about.
rep. McCain
dem. Hilary (Actually I was going for this last post, but I wasn't thinking straight)
I was glancing over at techno's post, and according to it, John Kerry's running again?
The guy, if I remember correctly, is pro-abortion. Do we need someone like that running our country, since abortions are wrong?
However, I just may be one of the only 20 year olds not that well-informed in any election, or politics for that matter.

However, I just may be one of the only 20 year olds not that well-informed in any election, or politics for that matter. Understatement of the year. I have been ignoring responding to most of Prone's posts and will continue to do so with only minor exceptions. Many youths in Canada and the USA are ignorant about politics. Heck most people in general are. It just so happens that about 95% of the people here seem to be above average in their knowledge(in part due to the fact that we enjoy trivia) of past events and current events. And their intelligence is demonstrated to be above the "smart" level of an IQ of 120. (If you can't figure out who the other 5% of the people are, you are probably one of them) So most people here ARE more informed than the average citizen of his or her respective country. Ideally I'd like most of us to be able to discuss this topic without having to constantly inform or re-inform Prone that his latest post is incorrect in it's facts. Unfortunately I have no idea how to do so. So a general ignoring of Prone's postings from now on in THIS thread could help lessen it. Kinda like how Whot's posts in the neverending story were usually ignored. I will add a few notes to re-inform Prone about what parties support what policies In General(there are exceptions) Democrat: Probably pro-choice(ie for abortions) but anti-death penalty, want more social assitance(ie more subsidies(money) for the less fortunate and/or lazy) Republican: Probably anti-abortion BUT pro death penalty(thus they are NOT pro-life), want to privatize most social programs. This is a very short list and there are far more notes on both republicans and democrats, some stereotypical and some not. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now as for candidates I think that Democrats: Obama, Edwards are the best choices. Hilary lacks a personality and that does have an effect on the uninformed voters who pick whoever "looks" best or "feels" best. Republicans: Just Giuliani. McCain would have been great for the 2000 elections. But he seems to have had all his greatness whipped out of him by constantly conceeding his morals. ie. McCain was brutalized and slandered by Bush in the primaries but gladly forgot all that after the election. He called people like Jerry Falwell an "agent of intolerance."(2000) But recently(may 2006) gave the commencement speech at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University. And he was against Bush's torture bill but conceded after only a few days with very little actual changes to the bill. So he his an enormous flip flopper akin to John Kerry. Giuliani vs Obama would be a very good and very close race.

Need a translator?

Nope. Understood it(spanish and french use a lot of similar words).
Translation into english(with dramatic flair).
Prone: Hi, you were right, I don't know a lot about politics and you do. So instead of getting my facts straight I will show you my fantastic spanish skills, since you have declared you do not know spanish. Thus I can prove to the boards that I am superior to them all once again. I am unaware that this display of my arrogance will actually hurt me even more, but I do not care.
Oh what the heck I'll decipher the real meaning as well.
Real translation
Prone: Thanks for the aid(sarcasm detected)
The real reason that I am speaking in spanish is to say the things to people who understand spanish, but I mean to be read by the public.
When people say to me that I am not speaking the truth, I feel like a little sad , because I do not want to have situations when people say bad things to me because what I said was incorrect.
When people stop saying things like that, I am going to feel well. But I do not think that people are going to stop, because they are stupid.
I am very fast in speaking Spanish like this, but do not want to be proud of(sarcasm detected again).
It may be possible for me to read the facts concerning the elections and speak only about things that I am sure of.
Technohawk: Now the ignoring can resume. Since it's the only way I can refrain from getting in trouble, again.
