Well let me know if I am the lone case, but i kind of doubt it. For some of the categories, the blue "new" box/word is coming up on categories and threads, which when i look at them, they seem to have already been read by myself, and i don't see any new posts in them??? Are these categories being made to be new again? I guess the idea would be to attract attention to them? In case your not sure of any of these, I've noticed a few in the crazy website sections for sure.
Although there can be some benefit to doing that, maybe a different icon can be used other than new, because there are quite a few posts on this website now, and i try to get through them all, responding to many. This process takes a long time, and it doesn't help when I have to open ones i've opened before and waste time realizing that they are not new.
I've noticed it before, but more so now.

It happened to me too! I don't know why, but I had nothing to do with it, and it has wasted my time as well (thinking there were new posts). I am guessing there was some error with the board.
Lets see if it continues (and hope it doesn't!)

Btw, just thought of something...I wonder if someone edits a post, if it shows the thread as new? Hmmm...

The editing theory I actually thought about, and I don't believe that is what's doing it, because when you edit the messages it says at the bottom, they've been edited right? I've looked on some of the posts which have said their new, and I haven't noticed the editing signature, but it could still be a possibility.
Could it be that one of the other mods could do it?

Actually, when this happens it is because one of the posters in that forum had changed their profile or signature or avatar. So even though no new posts had been written, the change in the profile cause the blue dot to appear.

Is there any way to edit it so that the "new" button will not appear unless the text itself was changed? There is no point in going back to the post if the only thing that was changed is the pic.

If you know that nothing in it is new you can push the "mark as read" button on the beginning of the forum, but be warned that it will mark all as read in the forum.

gj rabid. thats exactly why. whenever the slightest change of code happens, it considers it new. so if u change your avatar to a different url, it makes the thread new.
