coming from a philosophical standpoint, it seems to me that morals are nothing more than a set of rules that are generally accepted by society. but are not necessarily correct. your opinions?

what is more important i think, is where morals come from. are they because of humanity's religions and spirituality? are humans naturally pre-disposed to follow the rules/morals of society that we follow, those of us who are in society? if a child was raised by parents, who were raised completely isolated, so the child would be raised in an isolated environment aswell... would the child naturally follow the rules of our society? or do our morals come from our religion?
if our morals come from our religions, then there is a question the atheists will find themselves faced with... if they do not believe in anything to do with religion, spirituality, or a higher being of any sort... then where do they draw their morals from? since if it is the case that our society's morals stem from our religions, then they either do acknowledge even a minute aspect of religion, or a high being, or i dunno, there is some aspect of people that naturally leaves them pre-disposed towards the set of morals we follow this day, in which case, it would be incorrect that our religion gave us our morals, as much as we made religion, not spirituality, but religion as an organization, as a way to make following and spreading these morals easier and clearer
that is not a post declaring that i do not believe in a God, there is a difference between being spiritual and religious. so please do not turn this into a religion bashing thread or anything, i just think, that to a certain degree, religion and morality are intertwined, although i do not know where our morals originate from, within ourself, or from our religions, ie: God

¡ªSynonyms 5. upright, honest, straightforward, open, virtuous, honorable. 11. integrity, standards, morality. Morals, ethics refer to rules and standards of conduct and practice. Morals refers to generally accepted customs of conduct and right living in a society, and to the individual's practice in relation to these: the morals of our civilization. Ethics now implies high standards of honest and honorable dealing, and of methods used, esp. in the professions or in business: ethics of the medical profession.
imho, "morals" started with "civilization," and has just evolved into what we consider our modern morals, which we're constantly adding more to.. ie. being "politcally correct."
