If a cat were injured seriously, and needs a REALLY expensive surgery, say.. $15 000, would you pay for it if that cat was part of your family?
And would a dog be any diffrent for you? Would it deviate your opinion?
Or perhaps, humans? For example, your brother, your sister, your parents, your grandparents, your kids, etc. Or perhaps, a cat/dog/human that you dont even know, would you donate some money for the surgery of the cat/dog/human?
Or what if the animal or human had only a certain percent chance of living? Maybe there was a low chance, or high chance of living? What if it is 50%, would you still pay $15 000 for surgery?
This should prove a rather intresting debate. And for those who have pets, the would probably look at this diffrently. Since they have experience what it's like to be a owner of a pet.
So, don't just stand there, debate!

I don't care who it is. If a surgery costs $15,000, then it's not worth it.
Ok, maybe if you had millions of dollars and didn't care, go for it. But there's many other, better ways for that money to be spent. Especially if you're going to spend it on an old person or a person who doesn't have a good survival rate either way.
I don't mean to sound harsh here, but, especially for pets, I wouldn't spend more than probably $1,000. I love my pets and it would be horrible to have one of them die, but I'm not about to sell everything I own to pay for a pet's surgery.
What I'm trying to say is: People(/animals) die. Get over it.

All pets are the same. They like you because you feed them. Period. Getting a new one, on the other hand, would be a more reasonable alternative. For family, however, I would always spend the money if the effort wasn't completely futile.

Excellent, then I shall help ratclaw revive it a bit because I went through this. I actually had both a cat and a dog playing in the streets and both were hit with a car. Both needed surgery, and I had enough for one but only had about half of the price to get surgery for the other. Of course, I got them both surgery.
My point in this story is not only to state the irony that it really did happen to me, but also to kind of say if it's part of my family, if it means a lot to me, I will find the means to get the money. I gave bowling lessons, my mother gave piano lessons, and my dad took double shifts at work, we managed to raise $15,000 extra in one month. If it's really worth it, you'll find a way to do it.
So yes, I would spend the $15,000 to save my pet, to save my family, even to save a major acquaintance. It's worth it.
