Here are some ideas on how the bot and the channel can be made better.
1) Spam Definition - It seems that EVERYONE is surprised when the spam detector go off on them and they seem to always ask, WTF did I do, or i didnt even spam, or even, what is spam?? If possible, I think a definition of OUR spam detection should be placed so that the users(those intelligent enough) can grasp what it is and why he/she or another individual has been hit with it. ~ 3 or more continuous typings of the same word and/or phrase will give you one (IE: CoMpBaShEr: NERD 14:01:56 CoMpBaShEr: NERD 14:01:56 CoMpBaShEr: NERD 14:01:57 ~*~Spam Detection~*~
~ Unrelated phrase and/or words presented in a unconsciously fast manner will give you one(possibly a fast banishment if fast and persistent enough) (IE: User1: jflsjakfsa User1: jfldi3i3ls User1: ldjaslkjf ~*~Spam Detection~*~
I'm sure you can think of more explanations but that should give a good idea of what it is.
2) Greeting Adjustment - As everyone enters the channel(if the bots are present), they will greet you with a whisper saying something like welcome to triviahost and visit the site. I think one major thing that should be added not only to the greetings but to the banned phrase list as well is racism. I'm sick of banning people because of the frequent use of the word, "black person." Im sick of it, even if its a joke, we shouldnt have to stomach that shit. So i believe, in the whisper, the bot should say the same thing plus: Racism will not be tolerated in any way and use of it will result in a temporal banishment(ban). Also, you could add words like "black person," spick, gook, etc. to the banned words/phrases list.
3) Explanation of Scores - This doesnt have to be in-depth but i just got asked by a semi-vet of the channel why his scored was set back to zero and i had to tell him that his capitalization of his name was diff from normal. Thus, the bot reads a new name and starts new score. On top of that, people dont get the scoring(4 one minute, only 1 the next). An explanation should be given by the bot, but only on request, why the changes of the scoring are legit. Timing(as in each hints hinders the number of pts), # of competitors, etc should all be mentioned. Also, it should be noted that no matter how many pts the bot says you receive when you answer your FIRST question correctly, you will only get 1 to begin with. (IE: Ownage by User1 Points:4 Score:1)
That about covers my suggestions for now. Thanks.

Expanation of scores
Add why whenever a new person comes in and scores a point and the question gives them more than one points, and they get one point in total.
Ex. Dummy1 is correct! The answer is blah (Points: 4 Score: 1 Streak:1)This is all I have right now also. EDIT: Not really a big deal -----------------EDIT--------------------------- Maybe Chalupa, you could get your op bot to do something like what "OnlineGaming" used to do? Like, once in a while say the rules. And maybe perhaps then, turn off the greeting of the "check out our website www.triviahost.tk". But keep the current question. ----------------EDIT---------------------------- Merge the "flood detection" and "spam detection" together. They're basically the same thing but they're separate in the warning part. -----------------EDIT--------------------------- I think I had a extra cd key, but it's muted for some reason. I'll check if it's unmuted and if it is i'll give it to ya.

Good ideas Comp. I have thought of some of this before, but the main issue is that if the bots whisper any more than they already do when someone enters, they get disconnected by bnet for flooding. In fact, when you mentioned the Mod bot needs to be around more often, well the two times that it went down were because of flooding when whispering people that enter the channel. It's not uncommon for 3 or more people to enter at the same time and the more info that is whispered, the greater chance that bnet will disconnect you. Sometimes, when you guys all play SC together, and after the game is over, you all return to the channel (and then some ppl are mods, so the bot announces that) the bot runs the risk of being disconnected for flooding.
I guess one idea is for ppl to come to the web site, and we could post all this stuff. I can't really think of any other way unless someone wants to give me another CD key, and I could add an additional bot to the channel (OnlineGaming) and I could offer ppl to check the .rules, or .help or something like that.
Any other idea's how we could make this work?
Chalupa
Edit: The reason it gives 1 point is just a small glitch in the code that I was too lazy to fix, although it's an easy fix. IF someone is scoring for the first time, then the bot has to create their account. It's set up to start them off with 1 point, since that's how many points every question was worth before. When I changed the scoring, I forgot to change that small piece. Then I just figured why not give 1 point for the first correct answer. I can change it though if it's a big deal.

Perhaps only the Racism Greeting should be whispered along with the current greeting. I think it would be smarter just to put the spam definition and point scoring as optional; meaning they would have to type in a command such as .rules or .spam to find out what it is. If this is put into working order, it could be spread knowledge wise but mods at first, but other users would catch on and tell other new people of the channel how to check those things. But yea, there is always a risk of the bot overwhispering and flooding out.
And I gave you the only extra key I have, so Im fresh out.
The 1 point beginning isnt a big deal, but its just worthy enough to mention it in with the other things since it sometimes causes a reckus. You can change it back if you think it would be better than to have a listing in the bot or the website about it.

hey chalupa, give us access on onlinegaming too (if you don't mind...please) cause its usless if onlinegaming doesn't do anything about banning player that are not banned. It only bans the ones that have already been banned.

hey Guys! Wassup! lolz Im back i guess been away for a while. anyways.. you should add a .rules command (or whatever trigger is nowadays) That would you wouldnt risk Dropping everytime someone joins the channel.. and have it on the non trivia bot.. if your using Stealthbot then i would Suggest having restricted access to it, so people dont feel the urge to spam.. Just when ever someone is Misbehaving a person with enough access could just type .rules and the bot would Display them. if your not using stealthbot eh oh well i could script it for you instead lolz.
edit: Holy crap typos..
until Next time! -trix

Good idea, but I must bring up a counter-point.
As with any command the general public is given, it most likely will be abused. You'll have everybody in the channel trying to do ".rules" at the same time and we'll end up with a flooded bot.
However, the final decision is up to Chalupa, I'm just offering my $0.02.

If theres no greeting on OnlineGaming, it should be fine.. .rules won't be used much, but joining is. So as long as the Triviahost is fine, onlinegaming is. But if Triviahost floods...thats when Onlinegaming come in. Is there a way to make it so that if and when triviahost leaves, onlinegaming takes over and starts accepting commands?

Well I made OnlineGaming ignore everyone in the channel so that it wouldn't ever flood (which seems to work). The nice thing as that anyone banned by triviahost is banned by Onlinegaming, plus OnlineGaming has the same shitlist as TriviaHost so we are able to keep some order when TriviaHost floods. One of the main reason for TriviaHost flooding is because of the whispering of the current question when someone enters the channel. Whenever there is a really long question, and multiple people enter, then it floods. I've thought of only having TriviaHost whisper the current question if it's a short one and not a long one.
As far as OnlineGaming responding to commands, then it means it could flood out and we could be left with no moderation at all.

It's nice to see that, on west anyways, we're starting to get the ranks back again!

I have it ranking the top 11 only right now. I created a testing bot that I test over on Asia since we don't have a channel there right now. I was able to get the Rankings working for all users but for some reason, it slows down the bot to the point that it takes 3 to 5 seconds after getting the answer for it to register. I'm looking now at other ways to accomplish rankings without slowing down the bot so much. My test bot also can .rank almost any number up to aroud 50 or 60,
So I have the rankings working, but i'm not using it do to speed. It seems if I have the bot rank just the lower rankings it doesn't slow anything down. I would like to get rankings online for every person but we may have to settle for top 20 or something. I'm not giving up yet on finding another method.
In the meantime, i'm also looking at adding other new commands to the trivia bot.

Now that theres about 28 people average in west, you should keep the bot simple to prevent flooding. The TriviaHost (OP) is constantly flooded out.

Chalupa Now that you mention it, I do recall the bot lagging sigificantly when the rank command was present when I first joined. Now whether that was the case is unknown, but it seems likely an explanation. Now which is worse, the bot dropping or having people continually guess after the real answer was proclaimed five seconds previous and get out of control, is everyone own opinion. Frankly, the top 11 should be good for this month. We've done wonders without it so theres no need for pressure and rush on the "completion" of the rank command.

I have an idea.
Change the script so mods can't be warned and eventually banned. Your warning system bypasses the safelist.

Since when does TriviaHost warn mods?
