Well, it depends on how many I eat or if there is a horse nearby. I would have to give one to the horse. But other than that, I say two.

It really depends on who owns the basket and the apples.
I'm guessing the supposed answer is five.
You take two apples from five, but you still have five, three in the basket and two in your hands.
Since the question is vague in that it does not tell us the ownership of the apples the answer cannot be acurately given.
If you own the apples, then you have five apples.
If someone else owns the apples, then you have two apples and the owner's gonna come after you with a pitchfork.
