um i dunno what you are talking about really, i have dual boot xp home and vista ultimate. and i had no problems with that, either installation or working with files between xp and vista. vista is unused for the most part though, xp already does everything i need, and it doesn't piss me off like vista for all it's security (which i know, its security is excellent because of that, but its a hassle when compared to xp)
xp has a long lifespan yet, it isnt about to kick the bucket

I have XP pro, and am currently working on a red hat linux installation via a virtual machine, as well as a working copy of windows 95 as a virtual machine.
I really liked the features of XP pro, and I will continue to use them, no matter what microsoft decides to do. Right now, vista is too unstable. They are bound to make a service pack late this year, or the next.
