I know this is kind of late, but I got inspired after watching "world trade centers" tonight. I'd like us to share our memories of where we we're on september 11.
I was in elementary school in 7th grade. In the 5th to 8th grader room. At precisely 8:48 A.M., The teacher from the lower grades (1st to 4th grades) came into our room and said, "Hurry, come into our room, something happened in New York." We went into the other room and I could just see the devastation on tv. There it was, the island of manhattan all covered with smoke.
I couldnt' believe it, but it was true. The buildings were all in smoke. Nothing ever happened like this before. I didn't remember '93 when they were hit as well.

Sleeping when the first tower was hit, mom woke me up at about 7:15am, I did my usual before school ritual for grade 7, and was about to walk out of my kitchen door on my way to the bus stop when I saw the news, and just as I started watching the 2nd tower was hit. I stood there motionless as both towers fell, one after another. Shrugged it off, for I did not realize the severity of the situation, and left for school.
Needless to say, it was all anyone could talk about at the bus stop, and I overheard something about the Pentagon being hit.
Shrugged it all off, and had a perfectly normal day at school.

I was in my 7th grade english room (around 11:00?), and when the teacher walked in she simply said,
"You'll probably hear some variations of this from your friends, but I'm going to tell you what's happening straight from the news to me to you. Two planes have flown into the World Trade Center towers. Now take out your books and go to page 20..."
I didn't really grasp what was happening until a friend of mine told me that her uncle worked in the WTC... he never made it out. I think that was probably the day I turned republican.

Exalted for that. I think the first time you're the victim of a crime, pay taxes, get a good paying job, etc. you become Republican.
But back to the topic at hand.... I was at home sleeping when my mom called and told me to turn on the news early in the morning. The scary thing is that my original schedule would have had me flying home to SF from Boston and I always took United. Scary thought.

Scary thought. wow. i actually came back from the east coast only three days before it happened. and we went to manhattan only a few days before we left.(remember the airport lockdown? i would've been stuck if we left only a couple days after) and we took united too. anyways, i was in fifth grade, and hadn't the slightest clue what had happened until the theacher told us. i don't remember what happened then.

For me I read it on the yahoo news but my mind couldn't conceive big airplanes, and I had thought it was little cesna airplanes that did it.
At school one of our profs mentioned it only by saying something along the lines of "I can't believe something like this happened" but never elaborated.
So I didn't really know until I got home and watched the 6pm news. Then it really struck me.
I was a conservative when that happened(Canadian Alliance at the time). I'm now more liberal, I'll leave my reasons out of this thread.
Let's not take a rememberance thread and use it for blatant partisan pandering.

Grade 6... woke up and took my shower. Then got into the living room, my dad was watching the news and i saw the towers getting hit by the planes. Didn't care much, my dad looked spooked (he's from the states and has relatives in new york) but it didn't bother me. Something was mentioned at school but otherwise everything was good.

10th grade. I woke up to my mom telling me about it and then watching it on TV.
Went to school, didn't do much that day. I think I spent at least half the day at school either watching TV or talking about it in class.

Eh? So, peon, I thought you were a sophomore now, or something. 10th grade when it happened? that should make you a junior in college now?
