May-Day. Macarthur Park. Illegal immigration "rally". Etc, etc.
I've given this thing about a week to settle, hoping that somehow when the dust cleared, people might regain some sense of rationality and realism, two things which have been sorely lacking as of late amongst many of our politicians.
Sadly, things have only gotten more ridiculous, more bent-over-backwards, and more upside-down than ever. Bill Bratton is throwing his own officers under the proverbial bus, demoting two high-ranking officers BEFORE any investigations (which have been promised and discussed almost ad-nauseum) took place. Antonio Villaraigosa, who was (oh delicious irony) in MEXICO that weekend, most likely because he didn't want to show up this year on account of the pathetic turnout, is practically falling all over himself to make sure that people understand "we are going to be decisive and take action!". Of course, he doesn't mean "take action" against the agitators and criminals who started the violence; no no, they were "poor helpless victims" who "didn't understand" when the police were telling them to "disperse and vacate the premises." Even though, as many of the videos on YouTube will show, most people got the hint.
And of course, Fabian Nunez, who was ALSO out of town, had to get his face on TV to let people know "it's okay to come back to the park, really, you won't get poked with a baton or shot at with rubber bullets"--you might get communist flags waved in your face, and broken bottles lobbed in your general direction, but that's okay because those people are just "expressing their support for their cause". Which, in case anybody has forgotten, is to REWARD ILLEGAL behavior with AMNESTY.
But what about that reporter who got shoved with a night-stick? Hmm, ever heard of being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Yes, mistakes were made. And I'm sure she's going to love the money and the career boost that this is undoubtedly going to give her. However, once again, our city, state, and even federal officials (FBI wants to oversee/help with the investigation) are bending SO FAR over backward for these people, most of whom are NOT citizens, that their heads are sticking out from between their knees.
Good GOD, have we become so backward and politically correct that NON-CITIZENS are given more benefit of the doubt than our own LAW ENFORCEMENT personnel? It started a long time ago, but these last years it has just gotten sickening. First with that drug-runner shot by Ramos and Compean, then the border fence being infinitely delayed or re-evaluated, and now this.
Hmm, let's see if anybody can answer this: Why--given what has happened recently--why would anybody in their right mind, want to join the LAPD? I mean why would you put yourself in real danger everyday, to protect the citizens of your city and fulfill what you feel is your calling, when the city doesn't even have your back? It's like returning someone's dropped wallet, and having them turn around and STEAL YOURS!
I can barely listen to the news anymore, it makes me so damn angry.
PS: I'm not one of those people who goes link-hunting just so you don't have to; we all know how to use Google.
