It seems to me that most people don't actually look at the candidates but simply align their vote with whatever party they are affiliated with. So in this thread please refrain from saying something like "Obama cause he's awesome". Provide an explanation for your choice.

okay, im a federalist, but i registered democrat to vote in the primary im voting for obama because: 1) we need an end to bush policy, especially republican partisanship, cronyism, and patronage 2) we need federal action to relieve our dependence on oil (all not just foreign), and the republicans (and some dems) are in the pockets of big oil, however obama will invest in alternative energy and wont do environmentally dangerous stuff like offshore drilling, which is pandering anyway 3) After 8 years of having very partisan republicans handle nominees (judicial and otherwise) we need the opposition party to at least balance out (we dont need 5 scalias on the court) 4) Obama will replace our regressive tax system by increasing taxes on those making more than $250,000, while McCain will just continue the bush policy of borrowing funds from social security, medicare, corporations, and foreign countries 5) Democrats will keep defense spending in check (no more 5 billion dollar a piece B2-bomber successors) and will hopefully reduce pork and corrupt appropriations (though all parties do that as a rule of politics) 6) Obama will work with our NATO allies and other pro-western countries to achieve our foreign policy goals, unlike the unilateralism prevalent in dick cheney neoconservatism, however obama will also encourage democratic reforms among our allies, unlike the neoconservatives who support strongmen if it serves our shorterm goals 7) Obama will pull the troops out of iraq at least half way through his term and just on a lower level, the republicans are just spewing forth propaganda and its really annoying (barack obama is an elitist, black christian, muslim, atheist, inexperienced, a kid, etc) when McCain is far richer than George W Bush and Cheney combined, yet merely keeps his income under his wife's name (she's worth roughly 1 billion) McCain is also far less intellectual than obama, just watch them in the debates and see how obama can think on his feet while McCain must either know the questions ahead or makes up answers and as an aside, both candidates campaign soundbyte strategy for afghanistan is a bunch of BS and probably isnt anything near what either would do if elected Edit: and obv, its Barack Obama with a C

I sense a Doom3x loquacious diatribe in the near future. Although he wanted Hilary.
Obama '08: Obama girl is waay hotter than McCain girl. I'm not totally sold on Obama, he still strikes me as too much the savvy politician, but he really does give you a sense that he would do his part to move this county's intentions back toward the greater good for mankind. Hopefully the grand ol' party doesn't completely bankrupt the country's future with corporate handouts before Obama can get into office. Yea, and what LedZep said.

one of the campaign strategies which really annoys me is how the republican propaganda machine has quasi-successfully labeled Obama as an elitist, when he's never made more than 150,000 a year (law professor at chicago U) and his recent wealth is from his book sale (which all the presidential candidates did) and McCain is one of the richest men to run for president ever though he hides it under his wife's name, he doesn't know how many houses he has, and he thinks rich is someone who makes $5 million a year, even though thats more than the average worker makes in a lifetime ($300,000 a year is just middle class?) and yes, the Republican party should be formally known as the GOP so that my federalist party can take their name

Anyone been watching the National Conventions? Personally, the RNC was such bullshit. Both are completely recruiting, but the RNC seemed terrible. It seems that all the Republicans can say for their campaign are: War in Iraq/Support Troops, Obama's inexperience (Negated by Palin's inexperience), Terrorism, and McCain's integrity. Your thoughts?

McCain has just proved the last week that he's made himself a slave to the social conservatives, by nominating Palin, and he will most likely display a more overt swing to the right in the coming weeks than we've seen recently.
Also Obama will completely emasculate McCain at the debates, unless they do that town hall shit where the republicans can just hand pick the questions.

No the debates are scripted, as usual. I believe that Obama would obliterate McCain in an 'actual' debate as opposed to these scripted arguments.
Any opinions from the people that can actually vote in the upcoming election?

Town Hall debates are shit which is why Obama didn't want to participate. As for the debates they are scripted. Candidates recive the questions ahead of time. The only part that isn't scripted is their rebuttals.

If i were American i would vote obama. If only for his remark, "If you put lipstick on a pig it is still a pig."
Also you really need to get away from anything bush like. He is a complete moron and has done nothing for the reputaion of america. Of course the debates are scripted. They are politians, therefor they lie cheat and do things the easy way.

yeah its entirely disgusting how at the beginning of the campaign (2007) mccain portrayed himself to be above dirty politics, and hes taken the first 10 pages from the bush playbook and put them into use 1) personally attack my opponent 2) court the crazies (christians) 3) pander with shit which is actually quite economically retarded and contributes to russia's gdp (drill baby drill!) 4) Run nothing but negative ads, and when you do make positive ads, have them be about your personality 5) flat out lie about the opponent (obama will raise your taxes, o wait, only if you make over $250,000) 6) pretend to be adversarial with the media while they actually give you a huge advantage 7) spread further lies about your opponent because you have no issues to run on 8) rattle the sabre against foreign powers by threatening to go to war with a country (russia this time, guess they dont fear nukes) 9) Praise your runningmate and his/her staff/associates/family even though its blatantly obvious that the person completely evil or corrupt 10) Say whatever is needed to get you elected even if it contradicts your earlier message
did i mention make slanderous personal attacks because you dont have any issues upon which to run?
