Alright, well for the original riddle, the key is the second question that the person asked the luncheon club. In order for every person to say that the person to their left is a liar, no truther can be sitting beside another truther, and no liar can be sitting beside another liar. This can only happen when there's an even number of people there with truthers and liars alternating, so there were 40 people.
