i have to write a short persuasive paper (which will eventually be a speech) for class about an ethics issue that relates to school/teenagers. anyone have any ideas? note: it can't be about medical issues (eg. abortion) and other stuff.
edit: it has to be debateable, and can't deal with cheating.. that was our example.

Why you shouldn't plagiarize.

Hmm well a prominent issue in schools today is the female attire. "How little is too little?"
Swearing?
The dress code (If one is in place)
Treatment of homo/bisexuals in your school?
etc
etc

whether or not it is appropriate to stand up for something you believe to be utter bullshit but labelled as inappropriate/wrong for whatever reason by the administration

Doing something bad but for the right reasons (ie for the greater good) like confessing about something you didn't do to prevent 100 innocent kids from being expelled.
School bullying, is it bad(and the bullies get expelled) or should the bullied kids learn(or be taught) to stand up to them.
Discrimination based on the groups you belong to. Does it happen? Should it happen? Is it just "group" pride.

those are all ethical questions.
You are aware of the definition right?

those are all ethical questions. You are aware of the definition right? yes, those are, but i think my teacher wants something more about if something's punishable for certain conditions or something, or something should be allowed, but i can't really think of any right now.

You mean something like
Should a kid with straight A grades(or 4.0 GPA) be allowed to escape punishment for an infraction(getting into a fight etc.) because of those grades.
but a kid with C's or D's will get punished?

Okay here's one - and I don't know if your school has the same code as ours does.
In our school, if a kid hits you, you cannot hit him back and you can't detain him. The only thing you can do is walk away.
Likewise, if you witness a fight, you can't break it up in any way or you're considered to be fighting as well. The only thing you're allowed to do is go get a teacher.
So for the topic, say you're a kid witnessing a fight. One kid is much bigger than the other, and you're much bigger than the larger one. You know that if you go to get a teacher, the small kid may be brutally injured. Do you
A. Break the school code and detain/disable the larger kid in some way or B. Do you follow the rules and go get a teacher, knowing that the kid will be hurt but that you will be suspended/expelled

I love writing essays =)
Improv essays are good and creative.
But add in a source that you can quote(or more than one) and your credibility skyrockets with your profs/teachers.
