Well it took me a while to finally get to this thread I felt that I would probably need long periods of time to read the long stories. But i'm here! I know yall were waiting for my helpful and inevitable comments. Heheh. Ok, to Trash's navy story: pretty good ehhe, I think i've heard it before, it's probably gotten around Canada . On a practical note, it would have probably been quite hard for the americans to move their fleet, but still funny that they were the ones who had to back down. As to Barney's comment that Canadians probably would have done the same thing, lol i doubt it, I'm sure our navy recognises that it should take the lowly place in a US/Canadian confrontation. But as we learn from Rick Mercer's talking to americans, Canada doesn't even need a navy, since we're landlocked . As for Trash's second Canadian story, I'm one Canadian anyways who doesn't endorse it. I hate letters or people who go on the precept of saying sorry, only to be sarcastic about it. That softwood lumber thing is quite a big thing in BC where I live, it's not really that the wood is better, it's just that we can produce it cheaper, and hence sell it cheaper. I agree with Barney that not many Americans probably cared that they lost to Canada in hockey, but it is quite a big thing to us hehe. As to the war of 1812, I'll agree with Barney's first statement that it was really the British fighting, not Canada specifically. To his implying that the US won the war of 1812: I tell him to go pick up a history book . Just to put you on the right page Barney, that's a war that americans are supposed to be ashamed of , what's your problem? Act more shamed!! lol. Umm to your question Barney Well... let's see. 1941 declared war on Japan (Germany and the rest too). 1950 went to war with Korea. 1954'ish started in Vietnam. 1961 attempted to overthrow Castro (Cuba). [glow=red,2,300]Fastforeward[/glow] 1991 Persian Gulf war in Iraq. 2001 went into Afganistan.. Iraq again. And a multitude of S.American countries, but not in response to as you say something they did. The previous countries did: attacked pearl harbor, communism, communism, communism, invaded other countries, harboured terrorists, and a crazy dictator. That was to answer the question, but i DEFINETLY do not write those in a negative sense. People have got to step up, as we learned at Munich (look it up non-historians) Yup, Victoria is quite a nice place Barney, got to stay at the Empress huh? Well that's not quite a good representation of our hotels, that's about the best we have to offer. Keep the stories coming people, I'm not sure I have any right now. NavY_Ceals

It is great that you found us here on this thread Navy, and as usual your comments are insightful and welcomed. Hey maybe next time I find a story that is a political piece, I should tag it with, " the attitudes and opinions portrayed in the following post do not necessarily reflect those of the person posting it". ;D I was hoping that the Canadians would come to straighten out this bit of fluff I found on the internet. Good job!

Geeze well I'm really glad that finnally SOMEONE got to tell me about the follow-up I wrote regarding the sarcastic letter. Only a few things to note here. That softwood lumber thing is quite a big thing in BC where I live, it's not really that the wood is better, it's just that we can produce it cheaper, and hence sell it cheaper. Okay! So that's one thing I was right on. Congratulations, British Columbians!! ;D ;D I agree with Barney that not many Americans probably cared that they lost to Canada in hockey, but it is quite a big thing to us hehe. Yeah... I imagine so. One funny thing to note though : I was taking a pleasure trip to Langley, BC and we were in a Safeway store. This guy, Canadian, came up to us and started APOLOGIZING because of that one hockey player who came up from behind And smacked the American player with his stick. I didn't even know how he knew we were American and we all had some laughs, that a total stranger who obviously loves hockey assumes we're foriegners and tells us he's sorry about a hockey game. You Canadians are pretty considerate people![/quote] As to the war of 1812, I'll agree with Barney's first statement that it was really the British fighting, not Canada specifically. To his implying that the US won the war of 1812: I tell him to go pick up a history book . Just to put you on the right page Barney, that's a war that americans are supposed to be ashamed of , what's your problem? Act more shamed!! lol. Hehehehe... I understand some of that statement was half-joking but you are very right NavY. The American side lost about the same number of battles as the British side (with some Canadians). But, one of our greatest battles to be considered in American history was the Battle of New Orleans - one from the War of 1812. Lol, you're right the whole war wasn't a sweet victory but we still won [/quote] Umm to your question Barney Well... Iraq again. That was to answer the question, but i DEFINETLY do not write those in a negative sense. People have got to step up, as we learned at Munich (look it up non-historians) I appreciate you stating it not as criticism. You're right, but in the letter it seemed like the author meant a country that said bad things about us was the kind of situation we invaded them... and that definately wasn't true. And, like you said, we had good reasons (for the most part) to attack/invade/go to war with those countries (some of them). Yup, Victoria is quite a nice place Barney, got to stay at the Empress huh? Well that's not quite a good representation of our hotels, that's about the best we have to offer. Yeah.. Very, very nice indeed. The nicest hotel I'd ever been at (unfortunately I've only stayed at about 5 hotels... ) I hope to go there again! Likewise - More stories! Barney
